Special Performances

Fractured Landscapes: Memory, Color, and Sound with Ilana Zaks, Violin

Sunday, February 15, 3 – 4:30 PM

This recital, featuring violinist Ilana Zaks with pianist Valeria Polunina, explores the dynamic interplay between sound and visual space through emotional terrain, digital distortion, and expressive color. Inspired by the work of Shara Hughes and Anastasia Samoylova, this program reimagines how solo violin, electronics, and violin–piano duos can reflect painterly abstraction, layered memory, and architectural disorientation. The recital includes works by J.S. Bach, Scott Joplin, Kaija Saariaho, and Paul Schoenfeld.

Cost: $35 (includes Museum Admission)/Members $15

Harriet Cohen: Einstein’s “Beloved Piano-Witch”

Sunday, April 12, 3 – 4:30 PM (Registration available March 1)

Pianist Roberta Rust introduces Harriet Cohen, who enjoyed a celebrated career as a classical concert pianist and was described by Albert Einstein as “The Beloved Piano-Witch.” She was a magnetic woman and intimate friend and lover to multiple luminaries of her era. Rust’s narrative recital will provide commentary on Cohen’s illustrious life, interwoven with performances by other composers, including J.S. Bach, Arnold Bax, Frédéric Chopin, Manuel de Falla, and Béla Bartok.

Cost: $35 (includes Museum Admission)/Members $15
