Play It As It Lays by Joan Didion + Laddie John Dill: Eastern Standard Time

Saturday, May 17, 2 – 3:30 pm

A ruthless dissection of American life in the late 1960s, Play It As It Lays is set in a place beyond good and evil – literally in Hollywood, Las Vegas, and the barren waste of the Mojave Desert, but figuratively in the landscape of an arid soul. Read the book and join the discussion and a gallery tour led by Norton Museum staff. E-books and e-audiobooks available on the cloudLibrary app.

This is a free event.

Space is limited to ensure time in the galleries; online registration required. Walk-ins welcome if tickets remain on the day of the program. Registration opens one month in advance.

The Angel and The Devil: Music of the French Baroque

Sunday, May 18, 3 – 4:30 pm

The season’s final concert celebrates the music of Marin Marais and Antoine Forqueray, composers known as masters of the viola da gamba. Mik Groninger performs on the ancient instrument which originated in 15th century Spain and is of a distinctly different family than the violin, which originated in Italy. The viola da gamba was the favorite instrument of Kings Louis XIV and XV who gave royal patronage to Marais and Forqueray. Groninger is accompanied by Michael Leopold on the archlute.
