Artist Talk: A Conversation with Artist Lee Chun-yi

Artist Lee Chun-yi will join us virtually to discuss Heart Sutra Landscape, on view in Art of the Word: Calligraphy and Chinese Artists. His unique, brushless technique draws inspiration from ink rubbings of ancient texts carved into stone, such at the Heart Sutra which Lee repeats nine times across this 11 1/2-foot handscroll. Discover how and why Lee used the text of the Heart Sutra as a grid-like foundation to create a panoramic view of mountains shrouded in mist.

Learn to cut, texture, stamp, enamel, or polish brass or silver. No experience necessary.

Artist Talk: A Conversation with Artist Lee Chun-yi

Friday, June 6, 6 – 7 PM

Artist Lee Chun-yi will join us virtually to discuss Heart Sutra Landscape, on view in Art of the Word: Calligraphy and Chinese Artists. His unique, brushless technique draws inspiration from ink rubbings of ancient texts carved into stone, such at the Heart Sutra which Lee repeats nine times across this 11 1/2-foot handscroll. Discover how and why Lee used the text of the Heart Sutra as a grid-like foundation to create a panoramic view of mountains shrouded in mist.

Rachel Gustafson, Chief Curatorial Operations and Research Officer, and co-curator of the special exhibition Artists’ Jewelry: From Cubism to Pop, the Diane Venet Collection, addresses the intriguing and informative relationships between artist-made jewelry and largerscale works in diverse media for which the artists are better-known.

ArtSpeaks / Illuminating Emotion: Light and Color in Architectural Spaces

Friday, July 11, 6 – 7 PM

Join Jason Bemis, Art and Science Lecturer at the American Information Center for Color and Environment, and an expert on the profound effects of light and color on human psychology and emotions. Bemis will explore how our built environments influence mood, behavior, and well-being, shedding light on the intersection of neuroscience, design, and architecture. Understanding the psychological impact of color and lighting provides deeper insight into how spaces can enhance or diminish our sense of comfort, focus, and emotional balance.
