Hou-mei Sung, Curator of East Asian Art, Cincinnati Art Museum The horse played a central role in shaping the sociopolitical world of China from the
ancient Zhou dynasty (c. 1045-771 BCE) to the end of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). This talk will explore how images of the horse evolved in Chinese art history to form an engaging symbolic language conveying the political and social messages of their time.

Pianist Roberta Rust introduces Harriet Cohen, who enjoyed a celebrated career as a classical concert pianist and was described by Albert Einstein as “The Beloved Piano-Witch.” She was a magnetic woman and intimate friend and lover to multiple luminaries of her era. Rust’s narrative recital will provide commentary on Cohen’s illustrious life, interwoven with performances by other composers, including J.S. Bach, Arnold Bax, Frédéric Chopin, Manuel de Falla, and Béla Bartok.
